House Types

 

The housing industry in the United States consists of mobile homes, modular homes, cabins and condos. Mobile homes are small, single or multiple unit homes designed for the purpose of traveling and living temporarily. Modular homes are large, one-family dwellings that are sold to buyers and assembled on site.

In Canada, there are mobile homes called recreational vehicles, RV's. These homes are usually smaller than a typical home and their number is limited and sometimes not available at all.

In the United Kingdom, there are recreational vehicles, also known as RVs, used by people on a long term vacation. This is not a type of home but a temporary place to stay. The residents of a recreational vehicle usually have their own rooms and use common facilities and amenities provided by the owner.

Some RVs are fully furnished and others are not. They are similar to campers but not quite as large. Generally, the residents of these homes can stay for a couple of days or a week or more. Although some RV's are motorized, the number of appliances and other things to make life comfortable is usually minimal.

The term permanent residence can also apply to an apartment or house. An apartment is a home that is intended for one family or household. Many people use apartment buildings as second homes.

Mobile homes are used by people on a temporary basis. These homes are usually small and have limited facilities like a toilet and sink, running water and some cooking facilities. Mobile homes are usually mobile and not built to last longer than a day or two.

A new home manufactured or built with mobile homes is a home that has been manufactured or built on a building site. These types of homes are usually less expensive than a manufactured home.

Mobile homes and manufactured homes have some similarities and differences. Manufactured homes have built-in kitchens while mobile homes have to be installed on the lot, most often in a trailer or parking lot.

Manufactured homes are built to last longer because they are more affordable. The cost to build a mobile home is lower than a manufactured home because the home has a longer lifespan. Manufactured homes require little maintenance and do not need regular painting and routine repairs like manufactured homes. The biggest difference between manufactured and mobile homes is that manufactured homes are more costly.
